Arguin Sandbank: the island that keeps moving

A boat side look at shifting sand, wild birds and the bay’s big entrance.

At the bay’s entrance, Arguin is a sandbank with no interest in staying put. Wind and currents keep reshaping it, while its dunes, shallows and wet edges make room for birds to rest and feed.

The view changes with the tide

From the water, watch the sandbars and channels redraw the scene. The outline you see today is only today’s version; the landscape is always on the move.

Give wildlife some space

Access rules change across protected areas. Check current guidance and ask your boat operator where you can go. Keep well back from birds, take your rubbish home and never try to cross a channel on foot: currents and returning water can be dangerous.
