Certes and Graveyron: a waterside walk with layers

Old fish ponds, dykes and marshes make this landscape a nature and history combo.

Near Audenge, the Certes and Graveyron estates bring fresh water, salt water and human history into one landscape. Dykes and former fish ponds sit beside wet meadows and salt marshes where birds find shelter.

Follow the lines in the land

Walk the open paths and you’ll see how dykes separate ponds, grass and marsh. The place isn’t untouched wilderness or a frozen museum: water and weather keep changing it, while the old structures tell you how people used the land.

Take it at walking pace

Some paths are exposed to sun and wind, so bring water and comfortable shoes. Stay on routes that are open, follow signs and give wildlife room. Naturalist walks are sometimes offered; check current access information before heading out.
