Salt meadows: the bay’s tiny-but-mighty wetlands
Tidal creeks and salt loving plants make a quietly brilliant wildlife spot.
On the northern shore, the Arès-Lège salt meadows are shaped by tides, small creeks and plants that can handle salty water. Those low grasses hold sediment and help create food and shelter for wildlife.
Look closer
At low tide, creeks and mudflats appear; at high tide, water redraws the edges. The small shifts in height and vegetation make this wetland a whole patchwork of habitats.
Stay on the marked route
Use open paths and viewing points, keep clear of birds and leave plants where they grow. Mudflats can flood quickly, so check tide times and access before you go. Binoculars are a nice bonus; curiosity is enough.
